TIFFANY TOWNSEND
NORFOLK — Young Women's (17- to 18-year-old) Division sprinter Tiffany Townsend, a trainee of Collins Elite Sprint in Texas, ran three sub-24-second races during the Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympic Games on the Nrofolk State University campus.
Townsend, 17, posted a time of 23.89 seconds (w: +0.7) in the preliminaries on Tuesday, August 1; 23.78 seconds (w: +1.9) in the semis on Thursday, August 3; and 23.80 into a -0.5 headwind on Saturday, August 5, for the victory and a gold medal.
On her 200-meter off days, Monday and Wednesday, Townsend put in work over the century distance, running 12.0 seconds into a light headwind (-0.9) during the prelims; 11.65 seconds into a legal wind (w: +1.3) in the semis; and 12.0 seconds into a strong headwind (-1.7) in a 100-meter finals round won by Odeika Bent of Orlando, Florida. Bent ran 11.96 seconds for gold.
