AUSTIN — Becoming the first Texas high school girl in history to run a wind legal, fully automated sub-23-second 200 meters, on Friday, May 11, Tiffany Townsend blazed the track at Mike Myers Stadium.
Townsend, 17, eclipsed the previous University Interscholastic League class 4A record of 23.04 seconds — run by Dallas Skyline's La Shon Nedd in 1981 — in posting a time of 22.84 seconds. Her time in the half-lap ranks no. 1, this year, amongst U.S. prep sprinters.
The future Baylor Lady Bear aslo established a new UIL state meet record in the 100 meters (11.21 seconds), earlier in the day, eclipsing Marshevet Hooker's five-year old state record of 11.28 seconds.
